When Peter Parker was six years old, his parents were murdered in an
international plane catastrophe, leaving him an orphan. In Forest Hills,
New York, he moved in with his uncle and aunt, Ben and May Parker. Peter
was incredibly intelligent and worked hard to graduate from Midtown High
School as an honors student. Peter was overlooked by popular students
like Flash Thompson, the high school bully, and other youngsters because
of his shyness and academic focus.

Peter was bitten by a radioactive spider that had been irradiated by a
particle accelerator used in the presentation while he was watching a
public display sponsored by the General Techtronics Corporation showing
the safe management of nuclear laboratory waste materials.
